I just came across this article, the author has some very good points.
The Task Manager definately needs a rewrite. The process panel should at least tell the user what each process means like the services manager and integrate some of the features from ProcessExplorer. http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html
Hope someone from the windows team reads this. Do they ever come here?

Yeh they come here... but the Task Manager stays as it is for the time being. If they would have changed it, they would have changed it no doubt in earlier builds - not ruling it out, but just seems somewhat unlikely now.
